Sharon Worthy and The Death of Jesse F. Fisher, Jr. - Age 3

.
.

When I first wrote a very short piece on Jesse Fisher, Jr. back in April this year, I was so angry over his death that I couldn’t say much. Except to say he’d died and the killer made an excuse, mom did it. I’m still angry about his dying by the hands of torture but I do feel I can now write another piece to update.

Sharon Worthy moved in with Curtis Leon Copeland around March 25, 2010. She was due to give birth to her third child any day. I do not understand why she moved in with a known felon. She wasn’t supposed to associate with anyone with a felony record. Sharon was no stranger to CPS since they’d had several reports concerning Sharon and the children. Sadly, children protective services didn’t or couldn’t protect little Jesse from his fate. Back in 07 CPS had investigated her for child neglect and abuse of Jesse but found no neglect. Again in 09 they received a report of two children under her care and again found no reason to believe the report. In Dec of that same year someone made another report but CPS filed it as ‘unable to determine’. Then in early March 2010 physical abuse was reported and CPS was still ‘investigating’ that report when Jesse died.

Perhaps CPS and the abuse charges were why she moved from Bowie, TX to Sanger, TX to live with Curtis - who knows. What I do know is she had many living relatives she could’ve left both Jesse and his one-year-old sibling with while she gave birth to her third child. Sharon is barely 21 and was 20 when they rushed Jesse, barely living, and bleeding from his nose and ears to the hospital. None of her three children have the same father. Jesse’s father Jesse Fisher, Sr was allegedly in prison.

On March 30, 2010, Sharon went to the hospital to give birth to her third son and later that same day, a 911 call was made concerning Jesse, Jr.. Curtis Copeland had told a neighbor that Jesse had fainted and asked her to make the call. When paramedics arrived, he was unconscious and bleeding. Later it was determined he had a broken pelvis and broken thoracic vertebrae, and severe head trauma. An examination also showed sexual abuse. Mr. Copeland tried saying when Sharon brought Jesse to his home she’d made a statement that he’d fallen down stairs. He also said Jesse had a bruised eye and other bruising and a bump on the head. Sharon told LE she’d witnessed Curtis slap Jesse so hard it knocked him down but admitted that she didn’t seek medical attention for him.

While Jesse was hospitalized, a social worker was in his room with Sharon and she allegedly stated that at no time did Sharon shed a tear or seem to be genuinely concerned for her son’s welfare. Allegedly, children services is attempting to remove Sharon Worthy’s and both father’s rights to her two living sons. I hope that happens. Curtis Copeland is allegedly not a father to any of Sharon’s children.

They charged Curtis Copeland with murder and Sharon Nicole Worthy with reckless injury to a child.

  1. Miss Worthy’s time spent in court in connection to her felony child neglect has been a slow process. No trial date has been set yet.

Back in April after they arrested and charged her, Sharon had filed for indigent status and a court-appointed attorney. The judge denied her indigent status. She retained Timothy Powers but a month later he withdrew as her attorney. The Judge granted his withdrawal. A couple court appearances concerning the case have taken place since her lawyer quit but I can’t find any information showing she has a new lawyer. The next court date is set for Dec 2, 2010. Maybe they will make an announcement that day about a lawyer. Maybe soon a trial date will be set and justice for her son, Jesse Fischer Jr., will take place.

  2. That poor baby. I hope Copeland and Worthy both stay in jail for what they did.

  3. Anonymous, I agree with you. Both need to be in prison! Curtis Copeland for sure needs to be behind bars for rest of his life. He is charged with capital murder so hopefully that will happen. Since Sharon did nothing to stop the abuse and may have abused her children too, I hope she is jail for a long time and while there reflects on the life she had as a free person.

  4. Sharon is not a bad person. she never abused her children. she made sure that they had the things they needed. she made one mistake by not going to the hospital after curtis slapped him. there are people that due way worse than that everyday and nothin is done bout it. sharon is my sister in law and i love her very much.

    1. She fucking admitted to watching her son get abused by her boy friend and she said she did absolutely nothing about it bc she didnt want to loose her boyfriend. Shes might as well have been the one doing it herself. Im curious... Did her son cry to her for help? Of course. Any child is gonna ask mom to save them. Instead of helping her son. She took her man in the next room and helped him. She didnt even show any emotions when she saw her sons condition. She deserves death or prison

  5. Anonymous, I am sorry for the loss of your nephew. My sincere condolences goes out to the family. I think Sharon is going to need your and others moral support during her trial.

I can't say with certainty that Sharon did actually abuse her children. All I know is what I've read since Jesse's death. According to what I have read, CPS has records of at least 4 incidents with her. And only one of those complaints was found as no neglect and one with unable to determine. Afterward, reason to believe was found in a later report of medical and physical neglect. She was being investigated for physical abuse when Jesse died.

Sharon was not supposed to be with Curtis Copeland. He was a known felon. So why leave her children with him to go and give birth to her third child - Especially since she'd allegedly witnessed him slap Jesse.

Jesse died as a result of horrific violence and I do ( due to all I have learned about what happened to Jesse and his own statements to LE, inluding his 'I've done something bad' comment in the written notes he allegedly left) put that more squarely on Curtis Copeland. But I also feel Sharon is partly responsible due to her lack of protecting her children.

Although I admit my first thought was 'Oh My God' I am (after remembering the birth of my own children), hesitant to put probative value on the reporting she didn't show any emotion when she was taken to visit Jesse in the hospital. At this time anyway. Meds ( if she'd taken any pain medications) could've been a factor in slowing her mental reaction to his condition.

I do hope if and/or when Sharon is released from prison that she makes better choices in her life. She had 3 children and has lost them. One from death and the other two due to the charges against her. I hope the two living children are in good homes and being showered with love and attention.

  6. Has a trial date been set for either of them?

  7. Nope. No trial date set yet- not that I can find anyway. Sharon has a court appearance on Jan 20.

I am actually wondering if they're going to try these two simultaneously since most of the court appearances have been scheduled the same day and time. Sharon finally has a new lawyer, her other one withdrew from her case. One is basically blaming the other but Copeland is the one who did it. He left the notes that he'd done something bad and among all his other injuries, little Jesse was allegedly sexually assaulted.

  8. Copeland has a court date next week and Sharon in April but still nothing about setting trial dates for either of these two. Little Jessie's justice is slow coming.

  9. Curtis Copeland's jury trial has been set for July 18, 2011 in Denton County, TX. That is great news to me. Finally little Jesse will have his voice heard.

Sharon's trial date hasn' been set but she does have another hearing coming up in April.

  10. Sharon's case is still in hearing phase. No trial date has been set. For a while I wondered if they'd try them both same day but now I feel Sharon's lawyers will delay hers as long as possible and wait until after Copeland's trial to agree to setting trial date. What is said in Copeland trial could potentially effect her case strategy, I suppose.

  11. The trial date of July 18 for Curtis Copeland has been reset to August 15, 2011.

No trial date has been set for Sharon. Her next court date is for Aug 25, 2011. After Copeland's trial. Curtis is charged with Capital Murder but Sharon's charge is a lesser one - 2nd degree felony.

  12. A new trial date has once again been set for Copeland. The Oct 4 date was changed to Dec. 5. They also have Sharon's trial set for same day. Hmm. Maybe a twin defendants one. We shall see if one or the other changes between now and then.

  13. Sharon's trial is now set for Feb 27, 2012. But one thing about Copeland's trial is that the Pros is wanting to use previous acts and I think that is a good thing. Back in 2007 Curtis was found guilty of agg assault with deadly weapon. Sadly he plea bargained and was given only 2 years with the 180 days he'd been in jail making it about a year and half spent. But it shows he has a propensity for violence.

Jesse Fisher is also on the state's witness list. Jesse is baby Jesse's dad. Jesse allegedly was in jail when little jesse was brutally beaten and died. They have another man on their list and I am wondering if he is the father of the 2nd child that was left in Copeland's care while Sharon had her 3rd child. I won't mention his name because I am not aware if he is the father.

  14. Copeland's trial is set to begin today in Denton Co., TX. I sure don't envy the jury that is chosen today. Prayers go up for them as they sit daily and hear all the horrific details of little Jesse's death. Jesse didn't have a chance at life, he was a baby and couldn't fight his attacker. The jurors will have to see the pictures of his damaged body as they hear what he endured with what the monster did to him.

Jesse was too young to know the meaning of justice but I pray he gets justice he so deserves.

  15. I think Copeland got a pat on back when it was decided his notes he left for his father and Sharon wouldn't be heard by jurors. He'd left his dad a note stating he'd been bad. I'll say! He terrorized a 3 year-old baby and baby Jesse died as a result! And IIRC I'd read that the one year old had a busted lip and bruise on his rear.

  18. I am thrillewd Copeland was found Guilty! Thank you for announcing it here anonymous. Jesse was brutalized in a beating and sexual assault. I am glad Copeland will spend the rest of his life in prison and can't harm another little baby. I'd read that the one year old had an injury to his mouth and brusies also. God only knows what would've happened to him if he'd been left with Copeland any longer.

  19. Jackie, I had read that Sharon knew Curtis had pushed him down but don't know of any other event of Jesse being abused she was aware of. Of course child protective services was investigating her even when Jesse died. Allegedly they'd found no reason to remove the children. I'm glad the children are safe now though. At least I pray they are in a loving home. Sharon's trial is set for Feb but she isn't charged with murder. Her charges are second degree reckless injury.

Thank you for coming down and commenting her.

  20. The children have been adopted by a very loving family. Nothing is more precious to them than those two little boys... they are very, very much loved.

  21. Anonymous That is great news! For them to be out of the abuse makes me feel good that they'll grow to have respect for others and productive lives. So few children who live in abusive families have that opportunity. Sadly.

  23. Sharon just took a plea bargin for 10y in prison this morning. None of Sharon's family is remotely appropriate for caring for children and her sister has also lost her kids to cps. CPS offered Sharon a place to use as a baby sitter for her children while she went to have her baby and told her not to have her children around Curtis. Instead of doing this she ignored cps and moved in with him.

  24. She really took a plea bargain for 10 years? I was afraid she might get out with time served. I'm very happy to hear this... I've been thinking about this case for the past 2 years.

  25. It's all so sad. I just don't understand. I pray we all get to go home soon.

  26. Yes, Sharon pled out to injury to child by omission. She was sentenced to 10 years. However she will be paroled long before she serves those 10 years. I do think she needs to stay in prison for some time. She didn't report abuse committed to her son. And left him with the abuser while she gave birth to another child.

  27. I've spent a while with Sharon in jail and although I don't know every detail of her life or case I can say that she is a changed woman. I know that she is hurt by what has happened and that she has definitely taken a huge effort to change her life. She is one of the sweetest people I've ever met and I'm very proud to call her my friend.

    2. Did you see that with your own eyes? I saw her bawling her eyes out! I was at the hospital and seen it with my own two eyes! She was devastated! These are lies!

    1. Her projected release date is 2014-11-12. Maybe they'll hold her longer if she acts up. This is only a projected possiblity by the prison system. Not a sure thing. Her other two boys have been adopted by a very loving family.

  31. Anonymous, the Nov 2014 could be when she comes up for parole. Which could be denied. I hope she has spent many hours thinking about her actions and the precious life they took. I do think about the horror little Jessie dealth with and how he couldn't have understood the why of it all. So thrilled to read the 2 younger babies are still with a loving family.

  32. Where was your anger when CPS dropped the ball when reports of harm were relayed to them from the time Sharon was less than 2 years of age? Where was your anger when she was 15 years of age expectiong a child? Where was your anger when Sharon was Sexually abused before she was 12 years old? Each of the dads were abusive men. Perhaps that is the only thing Sharon knew. CPS is nothing more than a revolving door. I think they call it job security. They offer no help except foster care, and often children die or are abused in that system. Where was counseling for Sharon? All these facts are part of news articles.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sharon was provided all sorts of help... which she not only refused, but ran from. (CPS also had a plan in place when it was time for Sharon to have a baby. A plan which she ignored.) She was also told not to take her children around Curtis Copeland, who was a convicted felon. Did she listen? No, she did not. These too are facts, facts which caused little Jesse his life. No sympathy from me.

    1. I agree. And her past didn't excuse her actions. Why didn't she see that her children weren't subjected to the same lifestyle she had as a child. She made the decision to ignore the advice about Copeland and moved in with him plus witnessed her son being abused but did nothing. Sorry but my sympathy for her parenting skills is nill. I am sorry she had such a horrible childhood but that, as I said is no excuse.

  34. Another side effect of drug use in that area. So many kids are being abused/killed bc of adults using/selling. LE, CPS and the courts are useless. Kids are pawns to support users in that area. Not unusual for girls in that area to have 3-10 kids each before they even hit 30.
