The Death of Melissa Dawn Huggins-Jones
Monday might May 13, 2013 Melissa text her friend back in TN around 11:30 PM and told her Mother’s Day had been hard because she didn’t have her 12-year-old son with her. The son had stayed back in TN to finish out the school year but her daughter, age 8, had come with her to N.C. when she moved to start a new life after her divorce. Melissa and her daughter had been in the apartment approximately 2 weeks. Their’s was the only occupied apartment in the newly developed subdivision. Melissa had worked at a bank in TN but I don’t know where she worked in Raleigh or if she was working. Sadly, Tuesday morning her daughter found her mother dead and walked over to the construction site and asked for help. The construction worker who went to the apartment said Melissa was in a bed, blood was everywhere and she was cold. CPR was of no use. Investigators are saying Melissa was murdered.

The woman moved here and worked for the same bank here, she was starting it up. She also closed her FB account 2 days prior to her death according to the article. Her son stayed back in TN with the father to finish out school, such a sad story. My heart goes out to the family. I hope they catch this ass.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: I remember reading about her closing her FB page and wondered why. So sad she moved to start a new life for herself and her children only to become a victim of violence. Of course my thoughts go to the construction workers nearby and I wonder if one of them is responsible or if her ex-husband had hard feelings about her moving. We haven't heard anything about the marriage and divorce. (family members & spouse/boyfriends have to be eliminated as POI) I read all the articles online and they talk about a loving woman who had a close relationship with her family and friends. Whatever happen, whom ever killed her did so after 11:30 PM because she was texting at that time. Since she was in her bed, it means the person slipped in her home and she was unaware or she answered her door and she fled to her room in attempt to get away from her killer. My sincere condolences go out to her family and children.
ReplyDeleteThree people have been charged in the death of Melissa Huggins-Jones. Police say they believe the three,Ronald Lee Anthony, Travion Devonte Smith,and Sarah Rene Redden went there to burglarize the apartment. I'm just so thankful Melissa's daughter wasn't injured in the fray. Melissa died of blunt force trauma. One has to wonder if her daughter's safety was on her mind as she was bludgeoned to death.
ReplyDeleteThese three suspects, made their first court appearance today and formally charged today, May 22, 2013. Smith was will be back in court on June 12 and appointed a public defender. Anthony will be back in court in June 12, 2013 at 9AM and appointed a public defender. Redden will be back in court June 12 at 9Am and appointed a public defender. All three were charged with first degree murder are held without bond.
I felt for the families of these defendants. Sarah Rene Redden's mom (I assume she was her mom) began crying when Judge read off charge and said she could get LWOP or DP. Redden like her codefendants just looked complacent and not upset about their future. Sarah is allegedly 18 years old. We can teach our children right from wrong but it is up to them to forge their own path.
I read an article in wral site that stated police traced a stolen laptop to a man named Mike McCollum via cellphone records and that was the link to the perps now charged with Melissa's murder. I hope they continue to investigate and find solid evidence the 3 were inside her apartment on the night of her death.
